Rachel levy is a French photographer who enjoys taken photos of flowers that have passed their prime. This means that the flowers featured in her work will be wilting, fading and revealing signs of decay.

The flowers she uses in her work are only specific types she gets from horticulturalists. This is because she wants a flower that she can be certain has aged naturally and hasn’t been exposed to other elements. Her practice is a kind of portraiture because she takes each flower individually. Then printing them onto cotton paper to be presented to the world. Levy’s work is unusual and modern take on a classical genre.

This picture of a rose is called Rose Charles de Gaulle 8 and is one of Levy’s photos. What I like about this photo is that even though the flower is decaying it still has bright colours. Also I really like the way the petals are in extreme details, and you can see all textures.

I have manage to create some similar work to Levy’s but the only difference is my flowers aren’t dead but very much alive. The reason for this is because this shoot has been taken during the spring season, where everything is coming to life after the harsh winter weather it has had to face. One of my images is called Close up this is a close up image of a flower already blossomed into the new season to present a beautiful and vibrant collection of colours.

It not just my Spring flowers shoot that works well with Levy's work but also my Spring Walk shoot because during this shoot I have manage to take flowers that are starting to blossom. This shoot links to my spring season where everything start to blossom and new life begins. One of my images from this shoot is called A Bright Spring Day this image is the opposite of Levy's work because she focuses on dead flowers whether I have focus on new life and fresh flowers.
